Why Your Business Isn't Showing Up on Google (And How to Fix It)

If you've ever searched for your own business on Google and struggled to find it, you're not alone. Millions of small businesses are effectively invisible to search engines — and invisible to the customers who are actively looking for them.

Reason 1: You Don't Have a Website

This is the most common reason, and the most fixable. Google indexes websites. It doesn't index Instagram profiles, Facebook pages, or WhatsApp numbers. Without a website, there's nothing for Google to show when someone searches for your service in your area.

Reason 2: Your Website Isn't Indexed

Having a website isn't enough if Google hasn't discovered it. New websites need to be submitted to Google Search Console with a sitemap — a file that tells Google which pages exist and should be crawled. Without this, your site might not appear in search results for weeks or months.

Reason 3: Your Website Is Too Slow

Google's ranking algorithm favours fast websites. A site that takes more than three seconds to load on mobile is penalised in search rankings. This is why modern web frameworks like Next.js — which we build all our websites on — are so important for SEO.

Reason 4: No Local SEO Signals

For local businesses, appearing in Google's "near me" results requires specific signals: your business name, address, and phone number consistently listed across your website and Google Business Profile. Missing or inconsistent information hurts your local ranking.

Reason 5: No Content for Google to Index

Google ranks pages based on relevance to search queries. If your website has only a homepage with a few sentences, there isn't much for Google to match against. A blog with relevant articles — like this one — gives Google more content to index and more opportunities to rank your site for searches your potential customers are making.

The Fix

The solution to most of these problems starts with a properly built website — fast, mobile-first, with SEO fundamentals in place from day one. Every website we build at fleurandespoir includes technical SEO setup, sitemap generation, and Google-ready structure so you're not starting from zero.
